Uncommonly Good Hunting
Sure, our hunters see plenty of pheasants, chukar and quail in our fields and hillside cover, but what really makes our bird shooting so wonderful is that we hunt native habitat. Hard-flying birds in natural cover are what truly make a wingshoot feel real, and that’s exactly what Crooked Run visitors get. That combined with the fact that our hunts are conducted by expert guides with access to dozens of seasoned gundogs is the reason our guests come back time and time again. For those who like a little variety, we also offer tower shoots for pheasants and Hungarian partridge that are loads of fun!
Whether it be a warm-up for hunting or an exciting activity in and of itself, people love to shoot clays—and we’ve assembled one of the nicest sport-shooting setups in the region. The centerpiece is an Orvis-designed course that features 13 stations, some of which overlook the picturesque Blue Ridge Mountains. We also have a great 5 Stand for those who prefer quicker shooting and lighthearted competition. Our clays program even includes access to certified instructors and full-on shooting schools.
The Preserve at Crooked Run was designed to be a full-service operation, meaning we also offer incredible dining and lodging. Meals are served in our exquisite main lodge (which includes a wonderful bar) and are sure to please the most discriminating palates. Bacon-wrapped scallops, perfectly cooked ribeye steaks and amazing salads are amongst the long list of farm-to-table delicacies our hunters enjoy regularly. When it’s time to turn in, guests need walk only a short distance to reach one of our spacious and luxurious cabins or chalets.
We've put in years of effort to make The Preserve at Crooked Run a first-class wingshooting destination, and we’ll be honest: We think we’ve nailed it. The Orvis Company seems to agree, based on the addition of Crooked Run to its prestigious Endorsed Hunting Grounds program! Though it's certainly a thrill to receive such accolades, nothing excites us more than the opportunity to wow guests with the full Crooked Run experience.
